Sātyaki’s Call for Intervention and Yudhiṣṭhira’s Vow-Bound Restraint

na vidyate jāmbavatī-sutasya raṇe viṣādaḥ hi raṇotkaṭasya | etena bālena hi śambarasya daityasya sainyaṃ sahasā praṇunnam ||

Educational Q&A

The verse upholds the warrior-ethic that despair has no place in righteous struggle: steadfast courage and confidence, grounded in proven capability, are praised as essential qualities in battle.

Baladeva is commending Sāmba’s battlefield temperament and strength, citing an earlier feat: even in childhood Sāmba rapidly routed the demon Śambara’s forces, showing he becomes exceptionally formidable in combat.
