Educational Q&A

Even a mighty warrior must submit to dharma-guided restraint: ancestral piety and reverence for sages culminate in being checked from a ‘ghora’ (dreadful) action when a higher ethical counsel appears.

Rama (Paraśurāma), described as the pride of the Bhṛgu line, performs tarpaṇa for the Bhṛgu ancestors at sacred waters. Sage Ṛcīka then appears directly and prevents Rama from proceeding with a terrible act.
