कण्वोपदेशः—नश्वरबलविवेकः तथा मातलिगुणकेश्याः आख्यानारम्भः

न्यमन्त्रयेतां राजानं कि कार्य क्रियतामिति । ततस्तामानुपूर्वी स पुनरेवान्वकीर्तयत्‌,निकट जाकर उनके चरणोंमें नमस्कार करके दम्भोद्धवने उन दोनोंका कुशल-समाचार पूछा। तब नर और नारायणने राजाका स्वागत-सत्कार करके आसन, जल और फल-मूल देकर उन्हें भोजनके लिये निमन्त्रित किया। तदनन्तर पूछा कि हम आपकी कया सेवा करें? यह सुनकर उन्होंने अपना सारा वृत्तान्त पुनः अक्षरश: सुना दिया

nyamantrayētāṃ rājānaṃ kiṃ kāryaṃ kriyatām iti | tataḥ tām ānupūrvīṃ sa punar evānvakīrtayat ||

ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。ナラとナーラーヤナは王を招き、「いかなる奉仕をなすべきか」と問うた。そこで王は、敬って近づき、その御足に礼拝し、しかるべき歓待—座を与えられ、水と果実・根菜を供され、食事へと招かれた—を受けた次第を含め、自らの使命の全容を、起こったとおりに順序立てて、寸分違わず改めて語り直した。この場面は、客人と君主を敬う作法、そしてダルマに関わる事を諮るとき、真実を整然と述べるべき道を示している。
