Dhṛtarāṣṭra Addressed on Sincerity, Hospitality, and Settlement
bhagavān janārdana āhukavaṁśī kṣatriyāṇām adhipatis tathā samasta-sāttvatānām (yādavānām) agreṇīḥ | mahā-hṛdayo mahā-parākramo mahā-sattva-guṇa-sampannaś ca || sphīta-stho vṛṣṇi-rāṣṭra-stho bhartā goptā ca mādhavaḥ | trayāṇām api lokānāṁ bhagavān prapitāmahaḥ ||
The verse frames ideal sovereignty as grounded in magnanimity, valor, and sattva (moral clarity). It presents Kṛṣṇa as the archetypal leader—one who sustains and protects his people while embodying ethical excellence, implying that legitimate power is inseparable from virtue and guardianship.
In Udyoga Parva’s pre-war diplomacy context, Dhṛtarāṣṭra speaks of Kṛṣṇa’s stature—his clan leadership among the Yādavas/Sāttvatas and his cosmic eminence—underscoring why Kṛṣṇa’s counsel and mediation carry exceptional authority in the impending conflict.
