Omens and Reception During Keśava’s Departure

The verse highlights the painful tension between dharma-driven action and human attachment: even when one believes a course is obligatory (going to the forest), it can inflict suffering on loved ones, leaving a moral residue of grief and responsibility that must be acknowledged.
Yudhiṣṭhira recalls the moment of departure for forest-exile: a mother, overwhelmed by love for her sons, runs after them crying, but the brothers proceed onward, leaving her behind as they continue into the wilderness.
