Udyoga Parva Adhyāya 58 — Saṃjaya’s Audience and Kṛṣṇa’s Deterrent Counsel (संजय-प्रवेशः कृष्णवाक्यं च)

बैठ जानेपर वहाँ मैंने पादपीठसे हटाये हुए अर्जुनके दोनों सुन्दर चरणोंको (ध्यानपूर्वक) देखा। उनके तलुओंमें ऊर्ध्वगामिनी रेखाएँ दृष्टिगोचर हो रही थीं और वे दोनों पैर शुभसूचक विविध लक्षणोंसे सम्पन्न थे ।।

sañjaya uvāca | upaviṣṭe tatra mayā pādapīṭhād apasāritau arjunasya ubhau sundarau caraṇau dhyānapūrvakaṁ dṛṣṭau | tayoḥ talayoḥ ūrdhvagāminyo rekhā dṛśyante sma, ubhau ca pādau śubhasūcakair vividhair lakṣaṇaiḥ sampannau || śyāmau bṛhantau taruṇau śālaskandhāv ivodgatau | ekāsanagatau dṛṣṭvā bhayaṁ māṁ mahad āviśat ||

サञ्जयは言った。彼らがそこに座を定めると、私は足台から引き寄せられたアルジュナの美しい両足を注意深く見つめた。足裏には上へ走る線が見え、二つの足はいずれも多くの吉相を備えていた。ついで私は、クリシュナとアルジュナ――黒みを帯びた肌、広い体躯、若々しく、娑羅樹の高い幹のようにそびえる二人――が一つの座に並び坐すのを見た。その光景に、私の胸は大いなる恐れに襲われた。
