Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 47 — Arjuna’s Deterrent Declaration
Sañjaya’s Report
yadā draṣṭā bhīmasenaṁ rathasthaṁ gadāhastaṁ krodhaviṣaṁ vamantam | amarṣaṇaṁ pāṇḍavaṁ bhīmavegaṁ tadā yuddhe dhārtarāṣṭro 'nutapsyate ||
Unchecked anger and pride lead to ruin and later remorse; the verse warns that provoking a righteous but formidable opponent brings consequences that cannot be undone once war begins.
Sañjaya foretells Duryodhana’s reaction in battle: when he sees Bhīma—mace in hand, blazing with wrath and unstoppable force—he will regret having driven events toward war, realizing the terrible outcome it will entail.
