जो मित्रोंसे सत्कार पाकर और उनकी सहायतासे कृतकार्य होकर भी उनके नहीं होते, ऐसे कृतघ्नोंके मरनेपर उनका मांस मांसभोजी जनन्‍्तु भी नहीं खाते ।।

arcayed eva mitrāṇi sati vāsati vā dhane | nānarthayan prajānāti mitrāṇāṃ sāraphalgutām ||

ヴィドゥラは教える。繁栄があり、財が家にとどまるときこそ、友を敬い厚く遇せよ。不運に打ちのめされたことのない者は、友の真の力と価値を知らぬ——人生が逆境へと転ずるとき、友こそ欠くべからざる支えとなる。ゆえに、その友に報いぬ忘恩は重い倫理の過ちである。
