Sañjaya’s Envoy-Speech on Peace

When rulers are driven by greed and power, they silence or exile wise counsel, making genuine welfare (svasti) for all sides impossible; diplomacy without ethical restraint cannot prevent conflict.
Sanjaya assesses the political situation and concludes that peace is unlikely: Dhṛtarāṣṭra, having expelled the prudent Vidura and seeking to seize the opponents’ sovereignty, cannot sustain a stable treaty, especially after the Pāṇḍavas’ forest-exile led the Kaurava side to treat their property as its own.
