Ambā’s Vow of Tapas after Paraśurāma’s Assessment (अम्बाया तपोव्रतनिश्चयः)
अस्मद्वधार्थ निश्चित्य तपो घोरं समास्थित: । ऋते कन्यां महादेव पुत्रो मे स्यादिति ब्रुवन्
bhīṣma uvāca | asmad-vadhārthaṁ niścitya tapo ghoraṁ samāsthitaḥ | ṛte kanyāṁ mahādeva putro me syād iti bruvan nivartasva mahīpāla naitaj jātva anyathā bhavet |
ビーシュマは言った。「我らを滅ぼすために子を得ようと決し、彼は苛烈な苦行に入り、『大天よ、娘ではなく、息子を授け給え』と唱えた。これを聞いた大いなる神マハーデーヴァは答えた。『王よ、まず汝は娘を得るであろう。のちにその子は男となる。今は帰れ—我が言葉が他となることは決してない。』」
