As a colophon, the verse itself does not teach through direct instruction; it frames the ethical tension of the episode: even the mightiest warrior bound by vows (Bhīṣma) can be checked by extraordinary means, and past actions (as in the Ambā narrative) can shape later vulnerability—highlighting karma, responsibility, and the limits of power.
This line marks the conclusion of the chapter within the Ambā-upākhyāna portion of Udyoga Parva, identifying the chapter’s subject as Bhīṣma’s acquisition/connection with a sleep-inducing astra (prasvāpana-astra). It functions as an editorial closing formula rather than spoken dialogue.
