Udyoga Parva, Chapter 140
Krishna’s appraisal of Pandava advantage and war portents
tāsu putrāś ca pautrāś ca mama jātā janārdana | tāsu me hṛdayaṃ kṛṣṇa sañjātaṃ kāmabandhanam |
The verse highlights how familial ties and personal desire (kāma) can bind the heart, creating moral and emotional constraints that complicate one’s ability to act purely from dharma.
Karna addresses Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana), acknowledging that he has children and grandchildren through certain women and admitting that his heart has become attached to them—an admission of the powerful pull of personal bonds amid the looming conflict.
