तं॑ वै विमनसं दृष्टवा सम्प्रेक्ष्यान्योन्यमन्तिकात् | पुनरेवोत्तरं वाक्यमुक्तवन्तौ नरर्षभौ,उसे उदास देख नरश्रेष्ठ भीष्म और द्रोण एक-दूसरेकी ओर देखते हुए उसके निकट ही पुनः इस प्रकार बात करने लगे
taṁ vai vimanasaṁ dṛṣṭvā samprekṣyānyonyam antikāt | punar evottaraṁ vākyam uktavantau nararṣabhau ||
彼が沈み、心が定まらぬのを見て、人中の最上たる二人—ビーシュマとドローナ—は近くで互いに目を交わした。やがて再び、彼に向けて言葉を重ねた。この瞬間は、長老たちが重大な倫理の岐路で揺れる心を察し、無言のうちに量り合ってから、迫り来る争いの中で判断を支える言葉を選ぶことを示している。
