वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights a dharmic model of political settlement: rightful succession can be affirmed (installing the heir as Yuvarāja) while maintaining respect and stability by retaining the elder king (Dhṛtarāṣṭra) in the role of Mahārāja—balancing justice, continuity, and social order.
Vaiśampāyana reports a proposed arrangement in the Udyoga Parva negotiations: leading warriors promise to enthrone the addressed person as crown prince, while keeping Dhṛtarāṣṭra as the reigning great king, suggesting a compromise meant to avert escalation and preserve the kingdom’s unity.
