श्रुत्वा यः सुहृदां शास्त्र मर्त्यो न प्रतिपद्यते । विपाकान्ते दहत्येनं किम्पाकमिव भक्षितम्‌,“जो मनुष्य सुहृदोंके मुखसे शास्त्रसम्मत उपदेश सुनकर भी उसे स्वीकार नहीं करता है, उसका यह अस्वीकार उसे परिणाममें उसी प्रकार शोकदग्ध करता है, जैसे खाया हुआ इन्द्रायण फल पाचनके अन्तमें दाह उत्पन्न करनेवाला होता है

śrutvā yaḥ suhṛdāṃ śāstraṃ martyo na pratipadyate | vipākānte dahaty enaṃ kimpākam iva bhakṣitam ||

ヴァイシャンパーヤナは言った。「善意ある友の口から、聖典にかなう教えを聞きながら、それを受け入れぬ凡人は、その拒みそのものによって、のちに結果の時が来ると焼かれる。まるでキンパーカの実を食せば、消化の終わりに灼けつく痛みを生ずるがごとく。」
