Gālava’s Eastern Ascent with Garuḍa; Counsel on Kāla and Upāya
catasraḥ kramayogena kāmāśāṃ gantum icchasi | tāta! iti prakāraṃ mayā kramaśaś catasro diśas tava purataḥ vistārapūrvakaṃ varṇitāḥ | vada, kasyāṃ diśi gantum icchasi?
The verse emphasizes orderly instruction and deliberate choice: after laying out all options (the four quarters) clearly and sequentially, the guide invites the listener to decide consciously rather than impulsively.
Yuparṇa addresses the listener affectionately, stating that he has already described the four directions in detail and now asks which direction the listener wishes to take, marking a transition from explanation to decision.
