Suparṇa’s Cosmographic Instruction
atra tṛptā hutavāhāḥ svāṃ yonim upabhuñjate | atra pātālam āśritya varuṇaḥ śriyam āpa ca ||
The verse highlights a dharmic principle: when beings or powers abide in their proper source and rightful sphere (svā yoni), they become fulfilled and regain strength; similarly, taking appropriate refuge (āśritya) in a fitting domain leads to stability and prosperity (śrī).
Yuparṇa points to a particular place of significance, describing it as a site where Agni (the fire-power) becomes satisfied and returns to its own origin, and where Varuṇa, by resorting to Pātāla, attained prosperity—thereby praising the place’s sanctity and efficacy.
