(Abhimanyu-vilāpa) — Uttarā’s lament, observed and framed by Gandhārī
etāvān iha saṁvāso vihitas te mayā saha | ṣaṇmāsān saptame māsi tvaṁ vīra nidhanaṁ gataḥ ||
The verse underscores the fragility and brevity of worldly bonds: even intimate companionship is limited by fate and time, and heroic death in war abruptly ends human relationships, intensifying the ethical reflection on the cost of conflict.
In the Strī Parva’s lamentation context after the Kurukṣetra war, Vaiśampāyana reports a grief-filled recollection: a speaker mourns that their ordained time of living together lasted only six months, and the hero died in the seventh month.
