Rules for Dharmic Victory in Kṣatriya Engagement
मम धर्मबलिं दत्त किं वा मां प्रतिपत्स्थथ । ते चेत् तमागतं तत्र वृणुयु: कुशलं भवेत्,भीष्मजीने कहा--राजन्! पहले राजा सहायकोंके साथ अथवा बिना सहायकोंके ही जिसपर विजय पाना चाहता हो, उस राज्यमें जाकर वहाँके लोगोंसे कहे कि मैं तुम्हारा राजा हूँ और सदा तुमलोगोंकी रक्षा करूँगा, मुझे धर्मके अनुसार कर दो अथवा मेरे साथ युद्ध करो। उसके ऐसा कहनेपर यदि वे उस समागत नरेशका अपने राजाके रूपमें वरण कर लें तो सबकी कुशल हो
mama dharmabaliṁ datta kiṁ vā māṁ pratipatsthatha | te cet tam āgataṁ tatra vṛṇuyuḥ kuśalaṁ bhavet ||
ビーシュマは言った。「ダルマにより定められた貢納を我に捧げよ。さもなくば、戦場にて我に抗え。もし我が到来ののち、人々がその来たる王を自らの君主として選び受け入れるなら、万民に安寧と秩序が行き渡るであろう。」
