Discourse on Wealth and Royal Duty

विश्वरूपो महादेव: सर्वमेधे महामखे । जुहाव सर्वभूतानि तथैवात्मानमात्मना,सम्पूर्ण विश्व जिनका स्वरूप है, उन महादेवजीने सर्वमैध नामक महायज्ञमें सम्पूर्ण भूतोंकी तथा स्वयं अपनी भी आहुति दे दी थी

viśvarūpo mahādevaḥ sarvamedhe mahāmakhe | juhāva sarvabhūtāni tathaivātmānam ātmanā ||

アルジュナは言った。「全宇宙をその御姿とするマハーデーヴァは、かつてサルヴァメーダ(Sarvamedha)と呼ばれる大供犠を修した。その広大なる儀礼において、彼は一切の生類を、そして自らの自己さえも、自らによって供えた。」この偈は、完全なる自己奉献という倫理の理想を呼び起こす。最高の礼拝とは儀式の誇示ではなく、万有の安寧と円満のために我執と所有欲を明け渡すことである。
