भीष्म उवाच
Bhīṣma frames moral instruction through itihāsa—an authoritative precedent—indicating that dharma is clarified not only by abstract rules but also by exemplary narratives and dialogues of revered figures.
Bhīṣma tells Yudhiṣṭhira that, for the issue under discussion, an ancient example is traditionally cited: a conversation between King Purūravas (Aila) and the sage Kaśyapa, and he invites Yudhiṣṭhira to listen attentively.
