अत्राप्युदाहरन्तीममितिहासं पुरातनम् । पुरूरवस ऐलस्य संवादं मातरिश्वन:,इस विषयमें विद्वान्ू लोग इला कुमार पुरूरवा तथा वायुके संवादरूप प्राचीन इतिहासका उदाहरण दिया करते हैं
atrāpy udāharantīmam itihāsaṃ purātanam | purūravas ailasya saṃvādaṃ mātariśvanaḥ ||
ここでもまた、学識ある者たちは古の史話を例として引く。すなわち、イラーの子プルーラヴァスと、マータリシュヴァン（風神ヴァーユ）との対話である。この旧き物語を呼び起こすことにより、ビーシュマは、論じられる倫理の要点が単なる私見ではなく、権威ある先例と熟慮の勧告に支えられていることを示している。
