Śānti Parva, Adhyāya 52 — Bhīṣma’s Humility Before Kṛṣṇa and the Granting of Boons
tato maharṣayaḥ sarve samutthāya janārdanam | bhīṣmam āmantrayāṃ cakrū rājānaṃ ca yudhiṣṭhiram ||
The verse highlights dhārmic conduct in social and spiritual settings: rising in respect, formally taking leave, and honoring both divine and human authorities (Kṛṣṇa, Bhīṣma, and the king). It models humility, gratitude, and proper closure after receiving instruction.
After the ongoing instruction/discourse in Śānti Parva, the assembled sages stand up and respectfully bid farewell to Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana), to Bhīṣma, and to King Yudhiṣṭhira, indicating the end of their visit or audience.
