Yudhiṣṭhira’s Post-Accession Settlements and Approach to Vāsudeva
sukhena te niśā kaccid vyuṣṭā buddhimatāṃ vara
The verse models courteous inquiry and ethical attentiveness: before instruction or deliberation, one asks about the other’s well-being, reflecting dharmic conduct and respect for the wise.
Vaiśampāyana addresses a revered, wise listener and begins a new exchange by asking whether the night has passed comfortably—an opening that signals care, readiness for dialogue, and the transition into further counsel in Śānti Parva.
