Vaiśampāyana uvāca: tam uvāca mahārāja Vyāso vedavidāṁ varaḥ | Nāradaṁ samabhiprekṣya sarvajñānāṁ purātanam ||
The verse establishes the ethical authority behind the forthcoming instruction: Vyāsa, the foremost Vedic knower, speaks with due regard to Nārada, the ancient omniscient sage—signaling that the guidance to Yudhiṣṭhira is grounded in venerable, well-attested wisdom.
Vaiśampāyana narrates a transition: Vyāsa turns his attention toward Nārada and then addresses King Yudhiṣṭhira, introducing the next segment of counsel in the Śānti Parva.
