पाण्डुरेण च माल्येन पताकाभिश्न मेदिनी । संस्कृतो राजमार्गो5 भूद्धूपनैश्व प्रधूषित:,सफेद मालाओं तथा पताकाओंसे नगरभूमिकी अद्भुत शोभा हो रही थी। राजमार्गको झाड़-बुहारकर वहाँ छिड़काव किया गया था और धूपोंकी सुगन्ध फैलायी गयी थी

Transliteration

pāṇḍureṇa ca mālyena patākābhiś ca medinī | saṃskṛto rājamārgo ’bhūd dhūpanaiś ca pradhūṣitaḥ ||

Translation

ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。「都の地は、淡い花鬘と幡旗に飾られて、驚くべき美しさに輝いていた。王の大路は丹念に掃き清められ整えられ、さらに香の煙が広く薫らされて芳香が満ちた――それは政（まつりごと）の秩序と、敬虔なる歓迎の外徴であり、公共の場がダルマと都市の礼法にかなって浄められ、美しく整えられるのであった。」
