Dialogue and the Resolve to Practice Uñchavrata
अत्राप्युदाहरन्तीममितिहासं पुरातनम् । ब्रह्मणा सह संवादं तयम्बकस्य विशाम्पते,प्रजानाथ! इस विषयमें जानकार मनुष्य ब्रह्माजीके साथ रुद्रके संवादरूप इस प्राचीन इतिहासका उदाहरण दिया करते हैं
atrāpy udāharantīmam itihāsaṁ purātanam | brahmaṇā saha saṁvādaṁ tryambakasya viśāmpate prajānātha |
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは言った。「ここでもまた、民の主、人々の統べる者よ、学識ある者たちは古の先例を引く。すなわち、トリャンバカ(ルドラ)がブラフマーと交わした対話として伝わる古い物語である。これが、この主題を明らかにするための例証として掲げられるのだ。」
वैशम्पायन उवाच
That difficult points of dharma are clarified by citing authoritative precedents (itihāsa) and exemplary dialogues of revered beings; ethical instruction is strengthened through traditional exempla rather than mere assertion.
Vaiśampāyana signals a transition: to explain the topic under discussion, he introduces an ancient story—specifically a dialogue between Brahmā and Tryambaka (Rudra/Śiva)—as an illustrative precedent for the listener (a king).
