Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the authority of sacred tradition: a divine manifestation is not merely hearsay but is affirmed through prior narration and direct divine witnessing (Brahmā’s vision), encouraging reverence for transmitted knowledge and trustworthy testimony.

Śaunaka recalls what the interlocutor had earlier described—namely, the great Horse-headed form (Hayagrīva)—and adds that Brahmā (called Parameṣṭhin) personally saw that form, setting up or reinforcing the credibility of the ensuing account.
