Atithi’s Direction to the Nāga-sage Padma at Naimiṣa (अतिथ्युपदेशः—नैमिषे पद्मनागोपाख्यानप्रस्तावः)
हैरण्यगर्भाच्च वसिष्ठाद्धिरण्यकशिपु: शापं प्राप्तवान् यस्मात् त्वयान्यो वृतो होता तस्मादसमाप्त-यज्ञस्त्वमपूर्वात् सत्त्वजातादू वर्धं प्राप्स्यसीति तच्छापदानाद्धिरण्यकशिपु: प्राप्तवान् वधम्
hairaṇyagarbhācca vasiṣṭāddhiraṇyakaśipuḥ śāpaṃ prāptavān yasmāt tvayānyo vṛto hotā tasmādasamāpta-yajñas tvam apūrvāt sattvajātād ūrdhvaṃ prāpsyasīti tacchāpadānāddhiraṇyakaśipuḥ prāptavān vadham
アルジュナは言った。ヒラニヤカシプは、梵天（ヒラニヤガルバ）の子ヴァシシュタを軽んじ、別の祭官をホートリ（hotṛ）として選んだがゆえに、ヴァシシュタの呪詛を受けた。ゆえにヴァシシュタは宣した。「汝が他のホートリを選んだ以上、この祭祀が終わらぬうちに、前例なき生きものの手によって汝は死に至るであろう。」その呪いの力により、ヒラニヤカシプは定められた討伐へと至った。
