Atithi’s Direction to the Nāga-sage Padma at Naimiṣa (अतिथ्युपदेशः—नैमिषे पद्मनागोपाख्यानप्रस्तावः)
निदर्शनं चात्र भवति विश्वेषामग्ने यज्ञानां त्वं होतेति । त्वं हितो देवैर्मनुष्यैर्जगत इति
nidārśanaṃ cātra bhavati viśveṣām agne yajñānāṃ tvaṃ hoteti | tvaṃ hito devair manuṣyair jagata iti |
アルジュナは言った。「ここでもまた、古来の譬えが引かれる。『おおアグニよ、汝はすべての祭祀のホートリ(Hotṛ)である』と。汝は神々にも人々にも等しく、全世界の善き友であると宣言される。」
अजुन उवाच
Agni is presented as a universal benefactor: as the Hotṛ of all sacrifices, he mediates offerings and sustains reciprocal welfare between gods and humans, symbolizing ritual duty (yajña) as a force that supports the world’s order and common good.
Arjuna introduces an illustrative saying (nidārśana) to support the point under discussion, praising Agni as the officiating priest of all sacrifices and as one whose beneficence extends to the entire world, including both divine and human communities.
