Nārada’s Audience with Indra (Śānti-parva 340)
jijñāsur labhate kāmān bhakto bhaktagatiṁ vrajet | tvayāpi satataṁ rājann abhyarcyaḥ puruṣottamaḥ ||
Bhīṣma teaches that sincere engagement with sacred teaching—especially hearing it from the beginning—bears distinct fruits according to one’s disposition: relief for the afflicted, knowledge for the inquisitive, and a fitting spiritual destiny for the devotee; therefore the king should continually worship Puruṣottama, the Supreme Person.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs the king on dharma and spiritual practice. Here he concludes a section with a phalaśruti (statement of benefits), praising the transformative results of hearing the sacred account and urging ongoing worship of Puruṣottama.
