शुभाशुभे पुरा कृते प्रमादकर्मविप्लुते । स्मरन् पुरा न तप्यसे निधत्स्व केवलं निधिम्,तुम पहले असावधानतावश जो अनुचितरूपसे शुभाशुभ कर्म कर चुके हो, उसे स्मरण करके उनके फलभोगसे संतप्त होनेके पहले ही अपने लिये केवल ज्ञानका भण्डार भर लो
śubhāśubhe purā kṛte pramāda-karma-viplute | smaran purā na tapyase nidhatsva kevalaṁ nidhim ||
ヴィヤーサは言った。「過ぎし世に、そなたは不注意ゆえ善悪の業をなして行いが乱れた。すでに為したことを幾度も思い返して悔恨に身を焦がすな。かの業の果が苦として熟す前に、ただ真の宝—知—を己のうちに蓄えよ。」
व्यास उवाच
Past actions—whether good or bad—should not become a source of paralyzing remorse. Recognize that heedlessness leads to moral disorder, and respond by cultivating the only lasting wealth: knowledge and inner discernment, which enables right conduct going forward.
In the didactic setting of the Śānti Parva, Vyāsa addresses a listener burdened by memories of earlier, careless deeds. He redirects the focus from regret over the past to purposeful accumulation of wisdom before karmic consequences mature.
