Śuka’s Guṇa-Transcendence and Vyāsa’s Consolation (शुकगति-वर्णनम्)

प्राज्ञान्‌ शूरांस्तथैवाब्यानेकस्थानपि शड्कते । भयमप्यभये राज्ञो यैश्व नित्यमुपास्यते,विद्वानों, शूरवीरों तथा धनियोंको भी जब वह एक स्थानपर जुटा हुआ देख लेता है, तब उसके मनमें उनके प्रति शंका उत्पन्न हो जाती है। जहाँ भयका कोई कारण नहीं है, वहाँ भी राजाको भय होता है। जो लोग सदा उसके पास उठते-बैठते या सेवामें रहते हैं, उनसे भी वह सशंक बना रहता है

prājñān śūrāṁs tathaivāpy aneka-sthān api śaṅkate | bhayam apy abhaye rājño yaiś ca nityam upāsyate ||

ビーシュマは言った。「王は、賢者や勇猛なる英雄たちが各所に集っているのを見ただけでも、彼らに疑念を抱く。真に恐れるべき理由のないところでさえ、統治者の心には恐れが生じるのだ。そして常に傍らに侍り、近くで奉仕する者たちに対してさえ、王はなお警戒を解かない。」
