The Account of Suvarṇaṣṭhīvin
Yṛñjaya uvāca—prīti bhavantau yadi me kṛtam etāvatā mama | eṣa eva paro lābho nirvṛtto me mahāphalaḥ ||
The verse presents an ethical ideal: the highest ‘profit’ is not material reward but the sincere approval and contentment of worthy persons (here, honored elders/Brāhmaṇas). One should regard righteous service and the happiness of the respected as a complete and great fruition of one’s actions.
Yṛñjaya speaks to a Brahmin and addresses two honored persons together, saying that if they are pleased with his conduct, he considers his task fulfilled. He frames their satisfaction as his supreme attainment and the great fruit of his effort.
