Śuka’s Nirveda: Vyāsa’s Admonition on Dharma, Impermanence, and ‘Imperishable Wealth’ (अक्षय-धन)
मानसं सर्वभूतेषु वर्तते वै शुभाशुभम् । अशुभेभ्य: सदा55क्षिप्य शुभेष्वेवावतारयेत्,सभी प्राणियोंके मनमें शुभ और अशुभ विचार उठते रहते हैं। मनुष्यको चाहिये कि वह चित्तको सदा अशुभ विचारोंकी ओरसे हटाकर शुभ विचारोंमें ही लगाये
mānasaṃ sarvabhūteṣu vartate vai śubhāśubham | aśubhebhyaḥ sadākṣipya śubheṣv evāvatārayet ||
ビーシュマは言った。「あらゆる生きものの心には、善と不善の衝動が絶えず起こる。ゆえに、心を常に不善から引き離し、善のみに安住させよ。」
भीष्म उवाच
Since both good and bad thoughts naturally arise in everyone, the discipline is to repeatedly withdraw the mind from unwholesome tendencies and deliberately establish it in wholesome ones.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on dharma and right conduct, Bhishma advises Yudhishthira on inner governance: moral life begins with training the mind to favor the good over the harmful.
