Śānti-parva Adhyāya 3: Karṇa’s training under Rāma Jāmadagnya and the Bhārgava restriction on the Brahmāstra

अब्राह्माणे न हि ब्रह्म ध्रुवं तिछ्ठेत्‌ कदाचन,'जो ब्राह्मण नहीं है, उसके हृदयमें ब्रह्मासत्र कभी स्थिर नहीं रह सकता। अब तू यहाँसे चला जा। तुझ मिथ्यावादीके लिये यहाँ स्थान नहीं है, परंतु मेरे आशीर्वादसे इस भूतलका कोई भी क्षत्रिय युद्धमें तेरी समानता नहीं करेगा”

abrāhmaṇe na hi brahma dhruvaṁ tiṣṭhet kadācana | yo brāhmaṇo na bhavati tasya hṛdaye brahmāstraṁ kadācana na tiṣṭhati | ataḥ tvaṁ ihaḥ prasthāhi | tava mithyāvādina iha sthānaṁ na asti | kintu mama āśīrvādena asmin bhūtale kaścid api kṣatriyo yuddhe tava samatāṁ na kariṣyati ||

ナーラダは言った。「バラモンでない者のうちに、ブラフマン(Brahman)が堅固に安住することは決してない。真のバラモンでない者の心には、ブラフマー・アストラ(Brahmāstra)はついに定まらぬ。ゆえにここを去れ。虚言を吐く者に、この場の席はない。されど我が祝福により、この地上のいかなるクシャトリヤも、戦において汝に比肩することはない。」

Extraordinary spiritual power (symbolized by Brahman/Brahmāstra) requires inner qualification—truthfulness, discipline, and brāhmaṇical character. Without these, such power cannot remain stable and becomes ethically illegitimate.

Nārada rebukes a person deemed unfit (not truly brāhmaṇa and a liar), orders him to leave, and simultaneously grants a compensatory boon: despite moral disqualification for sacred power, he will be unmatched among kṣatriyas in battle by Nārada’s blessing.
