Educational Q&A

The verse frames dharma as something to be approached through disciplined inquiry: a ruler (Janaka) seeks clarification from a realized sage (Parāśara), implying that ethical and liberative understanding requires guidance from those firmly established in dharma.

Within Bhīṣma’s discourse to Yudhiṣṭhira in the Mokṣadharma section, the narrative shifts to a dialogue where King Janaka of Mithilā again poses questions to the sage Parāśara about dharma.
