The verse frames an ideal path of practice and duty: a yoga grounded in non-harm toward all beings that cultivates inner virtues (like calmness and restraint), and a form of dharma that harmonizes worldly flourishing with the highest goal of liberation.
In the Śānti Parva’s instruction setting, Yudhiṣṭhira addresses his ‘grandfather’ Bhīṣma and requests guidance on a non-violent, virtue-producing discipline and a comprehensive dharma that grants both worldly benefit and spiritual freedom.
