Kapila and Syūmaraśmi on Renunciation, Householder Support, and Epistemic Authority
loke yaḥ sarvabhūtebhyo dadāty abhayadakṣiṇām | sa sarvayajñair ijānaḥ prāpnoty abhayadakṣiṇām ||
Granting fearlessness—protecting beings from harm and anxiety—is presented as a supreme ethical gift, equal in value to performing all ritual sacrifices, and it yields reciprocal security and goodwill from the world.
In Tūladhāra’s instruction on dharma, he elevates non-harming and protection of all creatures above ritualism, stating that the person who gives universal safety gains the merit of all yajñas and is himself met with safety from every direction.
