Shloka 14

निपानानीव गोभ्योऊपि क्षेत्रे कुल्ये च भारत । स्मृतिर्हिं शाश्वतो धर्मो विप्रहीणो न दृश्यते,भरतनन्दन! जैसे बहुत-सी गौओंको पानी पिलानेसे निपान (क्षुद्र जलाशय) सूख जाते हैं तथा जैसे अधिक खेतोंकी सिंचाई करनेसे नहरोंका पानी निपट जाता है, उसी प्रकार सनातन वैदिक धर्म अथवा स्मृति-शास्त्र धीरे-धीरे क्षीण होकर कलियुगके अन्तिम भागमें दिखायी ही नहीं देता है

yudhiṣṭhira uvāca | nipānānīva gobhyo 'pi kṣetre kulyāṃ ca bhārata | smṛtir hi śāśvato dharmo viprahīṇo na dṛśyate ||

ユディシュティラは言った。「おお、バーラタよ。多くの牛が飲めば小さな水場が干上がり、多くの田畑を潤せば用水路の水が尽きるように、スムリティ(Smṛti)に保たれてきた永遠のダルマ——すなわち記憶され実践されてきた古のヴェーダの秩序——もまた次第に衰え、学識あるブラーフマナを欠けば、ついには姿を現さなくなる。」
