राजधर्मः—राष्ट्ररक्षणं, दण्डनीतिः, हयग्रीवोपाख्यानम्

Royal Duty: Protection, Penal Policy, and the Hayagrīva Exemplum

नाकालतो भानुरुपैति योगं नाकालतो3स्तंगिरिमभ्युपैति | नाकालतो वर्धते हीयते च चन्द्र: समुद्रो5पि महोर्मिमाली

na kālato bhānur upaiti yogaṃ na kālato ’staṅgirim abhyupaiti | na kālato vardhate hīyate ca candraḥ samudro ’pi mahormimālī ||

ヴィヤーサは言った。「太陽は時ならぬうちに地平と結びつかず、時ならぬうちに没する山へ近づきもしない。同じく月は時ならぬうちに満ち欠けせず、巨浪を冠する大海でさえ、不相応の時に荒れ狂うことはない。かくして世の大いなる力もまた時の支配のもとに動く。ゆえに人は忍耐と節度をもって行い、定められた瞬間に逆らって結果を強い求めてはならぬ。」
