रश्मीस्तेषां स मनसा यदा सम्यड्नियच्छति । तदा प्रकाशते<स्यात्मा घटे दीपो ज्वलन्निव
raśmīs teṣāṃ sa manasā yadā samyaṅ niyacchati | tadā prakāśate 'syātmā ghaṭe dīpo jvalann iva ||
ビーシュマは言った。人が心によって感官の手綱を正しく制し、その奔る光線を収めるとき、内なる自己は輝き出す——壺の中で安らかに燃える灯のごとく。ここに説かれるのは内なる鍛錬である。倫理の主宰は、よく導かれた心によって感官を統御することから始まり、その制御より、外への誇示ではなく、澄明な自己照明が生ずる。
भीष्म उवाच
Proper restraint of the senses through the mind leads to the manifestation of the inner Self; inner clarity arises from disciplined control, not from external action alone.
In Bhishma’s instruction on dharma and inner discipline, he uses a simile: when the mind firmly governs the senses, the Self becomes evident within—like a lamp burning inside a pot—signifying steady, inward illumination.
