This line is a colophon marking the close of a chapter in the Mokṣa-dharma portion of Śānti Parva. Its ethical-literary function is to frame the preceding instruction as part of a liberation-oriented discourse (mokṣa-dharma), presented through a didactic dialogue between a Brahmin teacher-figure and King Senajit.
The text is concluding a chapter: it identifies the larger work (Mahābhārata), the book (Śānti Parva), the subsection (Mokṣa-dharma), the dialogue topic (Brāhmaṇa–Senajit conversation), and the chapter count (the 174th chapter), signaling a formal end to that unit of teaching.
