निर्वेदोपदेशः (Nirveda-Upadeśa) — Maṅki’s Dispassion and the Limits of Wealth-Seeking
ततोडब्रवीद् गौतमस्तं दरिद्रो5हं महामते । समुद्रगमनाकांक्षी द्रव्यार्थमिति भारत,भारत! तब गौतमने उससे कहा--“महामते! मैं दरिद्र हूँ और धनके लिये समुद्रतटपर जानेकी इच्छा लेकर घरसे चला हूँ”
tato 'bravīd gautamas taṃ daridro 'haṃ mahāmate | samudragamanākāṅkṣī dravyārtham iti bhārata ||
するとゴータマは彼に言った。「おお賢者よ、私は貧しい。財を得るために海辺へ赴こうと望み、家を出てきたのだ、バーラタよ。」
भीष्म उवाच
Material need (poverty) may motivate action, but the text highlights that one should articulate and examine one’s intention—seeking wealth for a purpose—without abandoning dharma; ethical livelihood depends on right means as well as right ends.
In Bhīṣma’s discourse, the sage Gautama explains his situation to another person: he is poor and has set out intending to go to the seashore to acquire wealth, addressing the listener as “Bhārata.”
