The chapter’s framing theme is lobha (greed): it is treated as a powerful inner fault that can override discernment and lead one away from dharma. In the Āpaddharma context, the implied lesson is that even under pressure or scarcity, one must recognize greed’s disguises and restrain it so that necessary action does not become unethical excess.
This line is a colophon marking the end of a chapter in the Śānti Parva’s Āpaddharma section. It identifies the work (Mahābhārata), the larger book (Śānti Parva), the subsection (Āpaddharma), and the chapter’s topic (analysis of greed), indicating the completion of Bhīṣma’s instructional discourse.
