te tu bālā na jānanti yathā vai tān samīraṇaḥ | samīrayati saṅkruddho yathā jānāmy ahaṃ tathā ||
ビーシュマは言った。「だが彼らは幼く、風が怒ればいかに彼らを駆り立て、打ちすえるかを知らぬ。わたしはしかし、そのありのままを知っている。」
भीष्म उवाच
Ignorance and childish confidence fail to grasp the real force of causes—here symbolized by the Wind’s wrath. Wisdom lies in understanding how powerful agencies (nature, fate, or moral law) can suddenly overwhelm those who are unprepared.
Bhīṣma contrasts the naïveté of “the childish” with his own informed understanding, using the image of Vāyu (the Wind) becoming angry and violently driving beings about, to stress that they do not comprehend the danger while he does.
