Dama-pradhāna-dharma (Self-restraint as the Root of Dharma) — Śānti-parva 154

The verse highlights the ethical closure of an undertaking: when one has completed one’s duty (kṛtakṛtya), the proper response is contentment and humility—expressed here through reverent salutation to Mahādeva—followed by peaceful departure without further agitation.
Bhīṣma narrates that the assembled people, having achieved their intended purpose, rejoice and feel satisfied; they bow to Mahādeva (Śiva) and then leave the place happily and calmly.
