अलं स्थित्वा श्मशाने5स्मिन् गृध्रगोमायुसंकुले । कड्कालबहुले रौद्रे सर्वप्राणिभयड्करे,“गीधों और गीदड़ोंसे भरे हुए इस भयंकर श्मशानमें सब ओर असंख्य नरकंकाल पड़े हैं। यह स्थान सभी प्राणियोंके लिये भयदायक है। यहाँ तुम्हें नहीं ठहरना चाहिये; ठहरनेसे कोई लाभ भी नहीं है
alaṁ sthitvā śmaśāne 'smin gṛdhra-gomāyu-saṅkule | kaṅkāla-bahule raudre sarva-prāṇi-bhayaṅkare ||
ビーシュマは語った。「この火葬場に留まるのはもうよい—禿鷲と山犬が群れ、骸骨が幾重にも散り敷かれ、凄惨で、あらゆる生きものを恐れさせる。ここに留まるべきではない。このような場所に逗留しても益はない。」
