Mutual Causality of Ignorance and Greed
ततः स राजा व्यपनीतकल्मष: श्रेयोवृत: प्रज्वलिताग्निरूपवान् | विवेश राज्यं स्वममित्रकर्षणो यथा दिवं पूर्णवपुर्निशाकर:
tataḥ sa rājā vyapnītakalmaṣaḥ śreyovṛtaḥ prajvalitāgnirūpavān | viveśa rājyaṃ svam amitrakarṣaṇo yathā divaṃ pūrṇavapur niśākaraḥ ||
ビーシュマは言った。「そののち、その王は罪の汚れを払い去り、吉祥なる安寧に包まれて、燃えさかる火のごとく輝いた。敵を屈する者は、ふたたび自らの王国へと入った――それは、円満なる満月が天の穹窿へと昇り入るがごとく、光り満ち、完全で、福をもたらすように。」
भीष्म उवाच
The verse teaches that rightful rule and true prosperity arise from inner purification: when moral taint is removed, a ruler becomes endowed with śreyas (the higher good) and radiates beneficence—symbolized by fire-like brilliance and the full moon’s serene completeness.
Bhīṣma describes King Janamejaya returning to his kingdom after his sins/impurities have been dispelled. He is portrayed as shining like a blazing fire and, like the full moon entering the sky, re-entering his realm with restored glory and auspiciousness.
