ऋते शान्तनवाद् भीष्मात् सत्यसंधाज्जितेन्द्रियात् । तदन्विष्य महाभाग सर्वमेतद् वदस्व मे
ṛte śāntanavād bhīṣmāt satyasaṃdhāj jitendriyāt | tad anvīṣya mahābhāga sarvam etad vadasva me, paraṃtapa pitāmaha ||
ユディシュティラは言った。「サーンタヌの子ビーシュマ——真実に堅く、諸根を制する御方——を除いて、この事を真に説き明かせる者はおりません。ゆえに、幸いに満ちた御方よ、つぶさに究めたうえで、すべてを私にお語りください。敵を焼き尽くす御方、祖父よ。この営みはあらゆる営みの中で最上であり、これを聴くにふさわしい者もまた稀なのです。」
